Almost Geek now iPhone / iPod Touch Friendly

Since getting an iPod Touch I’ve been looking to make my websites more accessible to mobile devices now that I actually have one to test on. I found this awesome Wordpress plugin called WP-Touch which makes it brilliantly simple to make you site mobile friendly, at least to Apple devices. It’s as simple as installing and activating the plugin. You’re good to go with the default options but there are plenty of options available for you to tweak if you feel the need.

Wordpress and it’s ecosystem of plugins never ceases to amaze me. A big thank you to the WP-Touch coders.

Fanboyism

If you have followed technology blogs and forums for more than a couple of days you certainly seen the flame wars that erupt over operating systems (Linux/windows/OS X) or gaming platforms (Xbox/Playstation/Wii) some people do make good points but any of the good gets lost in rabid flaming of anyone with differing opinions.

Your editor here at Almost Geek is of the school of thought that computers are just tools to get work done and perhaps some entertainment out of them. It does not matter if you use Windows, Linux, or OS X to get your job done so long as you get your job done with as little heartache as possible with the tools at hand. I have very little patience for “X is better than Y because I say so.” or the ever present folks who cannot see the any negative attributes of their platform while they point out the other platforms negative points.  Please don’t start any of that flame war carp here.

Hello world!

Hello All,

Welcome to Almost Geek!  Pardon our dust while we sort things out and get up and running. Almost Geek is a long time in the making, I first bought the almostgeek.com domain a couple of years ago in an effort to keep the geekier posts off my personal blog but over time I got tired of maintaining several blogs and merged Almost Geek with my personal blog a few times.  The relaunch of Almost Geek is an attempt to share my knowledge of geek things and perhaps capitalize on it a little bit.

Let me introduce the Almost Geek: My name is Daniel Hutter, I go by Big Dan all around the internet. You can see my picture in the header and read my personal blog here.  I run several websites mostly centering around forums my most successful site so far is Our DJ Talk (ODJT) though I’m not completely responsible for it’s success I’ve had a lot of help from my co-administrators and moderators. I’m a big fan of making computing easier & more accessible, open source software, blogging, all three computing platforms (Windows, OS X, & Linux),  and community building and thus the posts here will be focused on those topics though most posts will probably but tutorials with plenty of screen shots to follow along.

Around here I follow a lot of geek, blogging, and marketing blogs such as Life Hacker, Pro Blogger, Mashable,  and Ars, it’s very possible that you will get some short posts with links to ultra cool stuff on them with a commentary from yours truly. I hope you enjoy the posts. Thanks for reading!
